Reception with Readings by Edwidge Danticat, Chantel Acevedo, Aja Monet, and Wendy Guerra, with a musical performance by Roxana Amed.

EDWIDGE DANTICAT
Born in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, Edwidge Danticat later immigrated to the U.S., where she published her debut novel Breath, Eyes, Memory. She has written an array of award-winning fiction and non-fiction books over the years, including Krik? Krak!, The Dew Breaker, Claire of the Sea Light and Brother, I’m Dying, a memoir which focused on the uncle who’d helped raise her.

CHANTEL ACEVEDO
Chantel Acevedo’s novels include Love and Ghost Letters (St. Martin's Press), which won the Latino International Book Award and was a finalist for the Connecticut Book of the Year, Song of the Red Cloak, a historical novel for young adults, A Falling Star (Carolina Wren Press), winner of the Doris Bakwin Award, and National Bronze Medal IPPY Award, and The Distant Marvels, (Europa Editions). Acevedo is currently an Associate Professor of English in the MFA Program of the University of Miami.

AJA MONET
Of Cuban-Jamaican descent, Aja Monet is an internationally established poet, performer, singer, songwriter, educator, and human rights advocate. Her craft is an in-depth reflection of emotional wisdom, skill, and activism. In both Aja Monet’s poetry and songs, she poses questions about the power of the imagination and metaphor in how we engage with local and global issues. As a Teaching Artist for Urban Word NYC as well as Urban Arts Partnership in NYC, she uses poetry as a therapeutic tool with at-risk inner city kids.

WENDY GUERRA
Wendy Guerra, formally Wendy Guerra Torres Gomez de Cadiz, is a Cuban poet and novelist. After a career acting in Cuban film and television, she turned to writing and won recognition more readily in international circles than within Cuba. Her works have been translated into thirteen languages. She has been described as "a kind of diva of contemporary Cuban literature”.

ROXANA AMED
Roxana Amed uses folk, rock and jazz to pay tribute to Argentine music.  Her acclaimed albums, released by SONY Music US Latin, include collaborations with some of the finest Argentine musicians in the world.
