The Betsy and SWWIM (Supporting Women Writers In Miami), created by local poets Catherine Prescott and Jen Karetnick, present the innaugural reading of the SWWIM 2016-17 series with Poet in Residence, Paula Bohince and local poet Mia Leonin. 

ABOUT THE POETS: 

Paula Bohince is the author of two poetry collections, both from Sarabande Books: Incident at the Edge of Bayonet Woods (2008) and The Children (2012). 

Mia Angela Leonin is the author of Braid (Anhinga Press, 1999) and Unraveling the Bed (Anhinga Press, Van K. Brock Florida Poetry Series, 2008). Her poems have appeared in New Letters, Indiana Review, Prairie Schooner and River Styx, among others. Leonin is of Cuban-American descent and was raised in Missouri. She lives in Miami, Florida where she teaches at the University of Miami and frequently writes about performance, dance and theater.

ABOUT THE PROGRAM: Founded and curated by Miami-based poets Jen Karetnick and Catherine Prescott, SWWIM (Supporting Women Writers in Miami) will feature female and female-identifying writers from South Florida and across the nation. Hosted by The Betsy-South Beach, a philanthropy and arts-driven boutique luxury hotel located on Ocean Drive in the heart of Miami Beach’s Art Deco District, SWWIM is an ongoing reading series with four readings planned for its inaugural year.
