ABOUT ABOUT

The Betsy is hosting a Posthumous Poetry Tribute for award-winning Miami poet Sherwood Ross, who passed away in June at the age of 85.  Well-known, respected and admired in the Miami poetry community, Sherwood Ross shared his vast collection of poems in live reads across South Florida.  His lifelong experience as a civil rights activist, speech writer, reporter, political commentator, veteran and father fueled his amazing, eclectic collection of poems.  He wrote many long-form poems telling stories of the civil rights movement and human rights. He wrote humorous poems (which were always popular requests at live reads) satirizing the human condition and government corruption.  He wrote profoundly beautiful poems about love, life and death.  Just before the accident two years ago which put Sherwood into a coma and tragically halted his creative expression, he published a collection of poems, "The Sailor and the Lady in Red”.

This event is open to the community, but your RSVP is requested.
