The Betsy and Bookleggers Miami welcome Tanwi Nandini Islam, author of BRIGHT LINES, along with Miami-based author Jaquira Diaz, for a fantastic night of reading + conversation. After a short residency at The Betsy South Beach, Islam will share work inspired by the writerly environs, and her debut work, Bright Lines (Penguin Books).

ABOUT THE AUTHORS

TANWI NANDINI ISLAM is the author of the novel BRIGHT LINES (NPR Review), which is a finalist for the 2015 Center for Fiction First Novel Prize. Her work has appeared in Elle.com, Fashionista, The Feminist Wire, Hyphen and Open City. She is the founder of Hi Wildflower Botanica, a small-batch candle and perfume line. She lives in Brooklyn.

JAQUIRA DIAZ: Born in Puerto Rico and raised in Miami Beach, Jaquira Díaz is the recipient of a Pushcart Prize, a Florida Individual Artist Fellowship, the Carl Djerassi Fiction Fellowship from the Wisconsin Institute for Creative Writing, and an NEA Fellowship to the Hambidge Center for the Arts. She's been awarded fellowships or scholarships from the Sewanee Writers' Conference, The MacDowell Colony, Summer Literary Seminars, the Tin House Summer Writers' Workshop, the Key West Literary Seminar, and the Bread Loaf Writers' Conference. Her work is noted in The Best American Essays (2012, 2014, and 2015).
