ABOUT ABOUT

Featuring Affinity Konar, author of Mischling (Little Brown, 2016).

Of Polish-Jewish descent, Konar is a new literary voice, and the author of “Mischling,” a novel about twin sisters fighting to survive the evils of World War II.

Affinity Konar's astounding, resonant novel MISCHLING (Lee Boudreaux Books/Little, Brown; September 6, 2016) is the story of Pearl and Stasha, twins who survive the attention of the infamous Dr. Josef Mengele at Auschwitz. MISCHLING is, as Anthony Doerr says, a paradox. The intangible magic of Konar's novel is this: While it is set against a backdrop of one of the most horrific episodes in human history, it is lyrical, poetic, and filled with hope. It is a story about the pervasiveness of nightmares and the staggering power of dreams. About how, despite the most banal of evils, one can find the ability to see the world anew. It is a story about losing, but more than that it is a story about finding.
