1PM: The Universe is No Consolation: Hyam Plutzik and the Ethics of Post Holocaust Reading
In B Bar: Cary Nelson is an American professor emeritus of English and Jubilee Professor of Liberal Arts and Sciences at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He was president of the American Association of University Professors between 2006 and 2012. In 1967, Nelson graduated from Antioch College. In 1970, he received a PhD in English from the University of Rochester, where poet Hyam Plutzik taught from 1942 to 1962. Dr. Nelson is the JAHLIT Hyam Plutzik Scholar in Residence for 2018.
5:30PM: Reading and Discussion with Erika Dreifus
In B Bar: Erika Dreifus is the author of Quiet Americans, a short-story collection that is largely inspired by the histories and experiences of her paternal grandparents, German Jews who escaped Nazi persecution and immigrated to the United States in the late 1930s. Erika earned degrees from Harvard University, where she taught history, literature, and writing for several years. Currently, she lives in New York City where she continues to write prose and poetry, and works as a freelance writer and book publicist.
