POETRY, PERFORMANCE, AND PROSE (WITH A SIDE OF PAELLA!)
The Betsy's Escribe Aquí program hosts an annual, mulitcultural Regional Writers night with works presented in many languages. Hosted by Pablo Cartaya. Readers at this final event for the 2017 season of The Betsy’s Escribe Aqui/Write Here will include:
Pablo Cartaya (Author of the acclaimedThe Epic Fail of Arturo Zamora, Director of The Betsy’s Escribe Aquí/Write Here, and Faculty Lead of the Writing for Children and Young Adults Master of Fine Arts program at Sierra Nevada College in Lake Tahoe.)
Chantel Acevedo (Chair of Creative Writing at University of Miami, a two-time Fulbright Winner whose forthcoming book, The Living Infinite has been called, “a vivid and enthralling tale of love and redemption,” by Booklist and received a starred review from Kirkus.)
Lydia Martin (One of South Florida’s best known journalists, Martin holds an MFA in Creative Writing from Bennington College, and will be working on her manuscript during a residency at The Betsy Writer’s Room.
Pedro Medina (Notable Peruvian writer, Founder and Editor of the online literary journal, Suburbano Ediciones, el Nuevo Herald contributor, best-selling author and professor whose novels are carried in room libraries at The Betsy Hotel.)
Teo Castellanos (Internationally acclaimed Actor/Writer/Spoken Word Artist will be reading from his recently completed screenplay, Third Trinity. Castellanos is a two-time artist-in-residence at The Betsy Hotel.)
Escribe Aquí honors the diversity of writing in various languages by hosting authors across cultures and languages for events and residency in The Writer’s Room. They convene to salute their own diversity; thereby transcending the notions of a dominant society that mistakenly perceives them as having ‘one’ voice. This program is funded by The John S. and James L. Knight Foundation.
