Betsy teams up with Lip Service Stories to present Betsy Writer in Residence, Diana Spechler for a storytelling workshop.
Diana Spechler is the author of the novels Who By Fire (Harper Perennial, 2008) and Skinny (Harper Perennial, 2011). She has written for the New York Times; GQ; O, The Oprah Magazine; CNN Living; Esquire; New York Magazine; New York Observer; Paris Review; Self; Details; Wall Street Journal; Salon; Slate; Nerve; Glimmer Train Stories; and elsewhere. She has essays forthcoming in PANK, Southern Review andBrevity. Her work has appeared in a number of anthologies, including Sex Matters: The Sexuality and Society Reader (W.W. Norton, 2013) andTrue Tales of Lust and Love (Counterpoint/Soft Skull, 2014). She is also a seven-time Moth StorySLAM winner and has been featured on The Moth Radio Hour, The Moth podcast, and NPR. In May 2014, she will be the Visiting Artist at the Betsy Hotel Writer's Room. She received her MFA degree from the University of Montana and was a Steinbeck Fellow at San Jose State University and the writer-in-residence at Portsmouth Abbey School. A 2012-2013 LABA Fellow and a 2013 fellow of the Sozopol Fiction Seminars in Bulgaria, she teaches writing in New York City and for Stanford University's Online Writer's Studio.

Her stories have appeared in The New York Times, Salon.com, NPR, Jewcy.com, The Washington Blade, Literary Mama, and Sliver of Stone Magazine. She teaches memoir writing at Lip Service Institute. And is creator of Lip Service, the Knight Award winning true-stories reading series. She has just completed a book currently titled, No One Knows I’m Famous. She grew up in Miami where she lives with her wife Victoria and children Natasha, Sebastian and Beast.
