ABOUT ABOUT

Join O, Miami and The Betsy - South Beach as we celebrate the life and work of Miami poet Donald Justice (1925-2004).

On Sunday, August 21, The Betsy-South Beach hosts a Salon and Reading with special guest David Orr, poetry critic for The New York Times, featuring a reading of Justice's poems by friends and Miami poets. This celebration is presented in partnership with O, Miami Poetry Festiva and is supported by the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation and is a winner of a Knight Arts Challenge grant. As part of the salon, a light meal will be provided by LT Steak & Seafood.

Donald Justice (1925—2004) is the most important Miami-born poet, living or dead. A winner of nearly every major literary award, including the Pulitzer Prize, the National Book Award, the Bollingen Prize, the Lannan Literary Award for Poetry and grants from the Guggenheim and Rockefeller Foundations, Justice is one of the most important poets of the 20th Century. He was also an influential and beloved teacher. During his time at the Iowa Writer’s Workshop, Justice taught many of today’s most important living writers.
