The Betsy welcomes Miami Music Festival for an evening of opera as part of their new Alumni Series, hosted by Festival Founder, Michael Rossi. This event is free to attend, but your RSVP is required, as seating is limited.
ABOUT THE PERFORMERS
Laura León is a Cuban soprano and a resident of Miami. She made her Florida Grand Opera debut as Frasquita in Carmen for the season 2016-2017. She also performed in Before Night Falls as Mother of a Peasant. While in the company, she covered the roles of Oscar in Un Ballo in Maschera, Norina in Don Pasquale and Yvette in The Passenger. Laura was last seen as Pamina in The Magic Flute with Opera Louisiane and as Zerbinetta in Ariadne auf Naxos by Strauss with Opera Fusion in 2017. Some of her most recent operatic performances include La Princesse Laoula in Emmanuel Chabrier’s L’étoile, Marguerita Fiorentino in Weill’s Street Scene; Königin der Nacht in Mozart’s Die Zauberflöte (german/english), Musetta in La Bohème, Pamina in Die Zauberflöte(german) and Clara in Egmont with Palm Beach Symphony. Ms. Leon was a recent 1st place winner of the Metropolitan National Council Competition for the District of Florida 2018, she won 2nd place in the St. Petersburg Opera Competition 2018 and 1st place in the NSAL district competition 2018. She also won 1st place in the Zarzuela de las Americas Competition 2015, and 1st place Concerto Competition at Florida International University 2015.
Roberto Lopez-Trigo is a young baritone who has recently finished his bachelor’s degree in Music Performance at Florida International University. He has worked with several musical organizations in the Miami area; including Florida Grand Opera as a student trainee, Arts at St. Johns, and Miami Music Festival. It has been noted by the South Florida Classical Review that Mr. Lopez-Trigo offers a “full, masculine bass” sound. His recent Operatic credits include Toymaker from the Toyshop and Count Robinson from Il matrimonio segreto He is currently training and polishing his vocal approach to musical theatre and contemporary music.
