The Betsy Writer's Room presents artist and arts administrator Nina Gale Olson for a wine & cheese reception hosted by hotel owner, Jonathan Plutzik. Take an hour to get to know the Artist in Residence as part of The Betsy Writer's Room residency program.

ABOUT THE ARTIST

NINA OLSON’s experience in non-profit arts administration in the areas of development, publicity, community outreach and public programming spans over twenty-five years, having worked at such leading non-profit arts organizations as the Afro Latin Jazz Alliance, Harbor Conservatory for the Performing Arts, Raices Latin Music Museum, Jamaica Arts Center, Central Park SummerStage, Arts & Business Council, ArtsConnection, the New York State Council on the Arts, and the Bread & Roses Cultural Program of 1199/SEIU. She has served as a panelist for the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs’ Cultural Development Fund and as an evaluator for the Arts Education program of the New York State Council on the Arts. Her work on behalf of the Raíces Latin Music Museum has been profiled in Latin Beat Magazine, NY Times and the Daily News. She is a recipient of a 2006 Special Recognition Award from Latin Beat Magazine “in recognition of and appreciation for vital contribution to efforts to preserve and foster the growth of Salsa Music.” Educated as a visual artist, she studied with Abe Ajay and Leonard Stokes at SUNY at Purchase. Her work has been exhibited at the Taller Boricua Gallery, Dance Theater Workshop Gallery, Painted Bride Art Center, and the Austin Museum of Art at Laguna Gloria as part of a two year national tour entitled, Pulp Fictions: Works on Paper an exhibition curated by Elizabeth A.T. Smith, Curator, Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles. She is a recipient of the Shirley and Franklin Poul Award for her work in the exhibition, The Power of Paper: Celebrating Women Artists at the Main Line Art Center curated by Bernice Steinbaum and the Juror's Merit Award for Pulp Fictions: Works on Paper. Her work has been featured in the New York Times, Daily News, Diversion Magazine, and Victoria Magazine.
